The Meaning of Vulturine

Vulturine

Whenever I see pizza I
Imagine that I'm in the sky
Circling round it like a vulturine

Bird above around a kill
Knowing soon that pizza will
Be this vulture's dinner when I dine!

The Meaning of Ada

Ada

Ada was a girl who seemed
Smiley all the time and beamed
As if the very sun shone from her face,
When bad tidings came her way
They never seemed to wreck her day
Her happiness nobody could displace

Which was well for in her name
Happiness indeed was framed,
A perfect picture of the attitude,
When ever people saw her they
Felt themselves a lot less gray
For from her happiness was imbued!

The Meaning of Achilles

Achilles

Should you even meet a man
Who has no lips then it might stand
To reason that Achilles is his name

For it means in Ancient Greek
"without lips" or so to speak,
A rather melancholic claim to fame!

The Meaning of Vulpine

Vulpine

I knew a girl who was vulpine,
Like a fox and though designed
To look quite good and make one's heart to race

The thing that frightened men away
Was her tendency to slay
Chickens with a smile upon her face!

The Meaning of Absalom

Absalom

I knew a man to whom belonged
The Hebrew name of "Absalom"
And like his name he was "father of peace",

For he was the type who brought
Peace about when others fought
His very presence made arguments cease!

A Comparison of Vegemite and Marmite

Vegemite vs Marmite

For some strange reason Aussies like
A substance known as Vegemite
Which they like to spread upon their toast,
An almost blackish shade of brown
The taste of which might make you frown,
The first time of it's tasting's rather gross.

I guess it could be likened too
Something living on your shoe,
This greasy mess of concentrated yeast,
Or perhaps salty armpit
Or  maybe clotted vomit
Yet in the land of Oz it's quite a feast!

But I must indeed admit
The second time that you taste it
Isn't quite as bad as first it was,
Then the third is better still
You might eat more and more until
You realize you eat it just because

Your taste buds have all gone quite mad
Because you crave the stuff like mad
In quite the same way you might eat a scab,
Or the stuff inside your nose,
You know exactly how it goes,
You shouldn't do it but it's not that bad!

Now I feel compelled to tell
Of another spread from Hell
A greasy jar of gunk the Kiwis eat
Upon their toast and just as gross
The taste of which comes rather close
To the yeasty Aussie rival treat.

Marmite's the stuff that I now mean
Blacker still and like a spleen
Pureed down and jarred into a spread,
The Kiwis eat the stuff like mad
And if it runs out they get sad;
Without it half of NZ would drop dead!

And let me say before I go
Something only one would know
If you lived on my side of the earth
NEVER tell a Kiwi that
Vegemite is better, that
Will hurt their ego worse than childbirth!

The Meaning of Ubiety

Ubiety

When I'm here I'm over here
And when I'm there I'm over there
And either way I have the quality

Of being in a specific place
Filling that specific space
The state of which is called ubiety.

The Meaning of Tmesis

Tmesis

Tmesis
is a word that’s quite absurd
Describing as it it does a word in a word
Abso-blooming-lutely is an example of one
But that's not all, we're not quite done,
In the whole dictionary there’s not one of them
It’s the only word that starts with T and M!

The Meaning of Zebrine

Zebrine

Did you know that when the zoo
Loses a zebra or two
They donate it to the city so
It can use the zebra to
Make a place where me and you
Can cross the road safely as we go?

They gently lay the dead beast down
Upon the warm tar-sealed ground
And steam roll it until they're left with lines,
And that is why the cross walk we
Walk across so frequently
Is said to be a crossing that's zebrine.

The Meaning of Vermian

Vermian

Recently I did invent
A gadget that I hoped was meant
To teleport me quick to the ballet,
Instead it did another thing
Quite different to anything
I thought it would and now I am afraid

That I have become a bit
Small and can no longer fit
My clothes for I'm as big now as a germ
And am now prey to vermian
Things for this new state I'm in
Makes me the right size for hungry worms.

The Meaning of Scar

Scar

I had myself an accident
A most unpleasant incident
Which involved hot coffee and a car
I swerved so as to miss the kiss
Of a most reckless ibis
Resulting in a crash and now a scar!

A mark left on the once smooth skin
Of what had been my only chin
Through which I was harpooned by the bird's beak,
Along with three degrees of burns
That my face from coffee earned
Making me a site more than unique!

It left me so with lasting grief
From which I may not find relief
Scarred emotionally or so it's said,
When the paramedics came
One of them loudly exclaimed,
"This guy has a bird stuck through his head!"

I fear that now when in my car
I have in mind that I might scar
The next fowl thing that may try to kiss me,
Not because my lovely face
Met with such dire disgrace
But because it cost me my coffee!

The Meaning of Abigail

Abigail

Were it a thing conventional
All my daughters I would call
This name that does contain a "Father's Joy".

For all of them could never fail
At being for me an Abigail
A name the Hebrew language did employ...

The Meaning of Taurine

Taurine

Whenever I'm passing through
A paddock I am careful to
Make sure that what I'm wearing isn't red,

For there might be a taurine
Bull or ox that is inclined
To chase me down to trample on my head!

The Meaning of Sabelline and Zibeline

Sabelline and Zibeline

I know a man who has a rare
Ability beyond compare
In that he has a world inside his navel!
A habitat for sabelline
Creatures that is so designed
To be the perfect home if you're a sable.

How it came that zibeline
Creatures came to live there I'm
Afraid is not a story that I know
But I've noticed that his waist
Keeps growing as the living space
Inside him makes for population growth!

The Meaning of Car

Car

Depending upon where you are
There are three things that are named "car"
One of these of course you all should know;
A vehicle built for the road,
Wheeled so to pull its load,
Powered by an engine so it goes!

The second thing that has the same
Simple designated name
Is the car built for the railway,
Also called a carriage too
Or coach as well to name a few
To sit in as you go along that way...

Finally there is the room
Inside a lift or a balloon
Another thing that's also called a car...
Mind you all three, it's plain to see,
Will help get you from a to b
Whether you are heading nigh or far!

Furfuraceous by Peter Grant

Furfuraceous

The furfuraceous man was sad,
Because his dandruff was so bad.
He chanced to try a new shampoo
That made his shoulders good as new.

The Meaning of Dyspeptic

Dyspeptic

I ate more than my mouth could chew
Now I'm dyspeptic and might spew
Because my tummy's twisted up inside
With indigestion forcing me
Upon my back so hopefully
What's inside me won't soon be outside!

So best to stay out of my way
I'm not in a good mood today
I have become a grump and more than septic,

You'll find me quite unbearable
Crotchety and terrible
With my temper testy and dyspeptic!

The Meaning of Ralline

Ralline

I went once to the library
So I could read a book for free
And stood behind a girl who was ralline,

Chicken-shaped with a small tail
And large feet too, just like a Rail
As I waited in the check out line.

The Meaning of Eolian

Eolian

Outside my house I found a spot,
Where tons of  leaves, a great big lot,
Had formed and I thought, "Wherefore came they here?"
I found out that the million
Leaves were all eolian
For it was the wind that put them there!

And then I found where once was sand
Was now a massive space so grand
The sand that once was there had disappeared
Leaving instead a gaping hole
An empty eolian bowl,
The wind blew there and so it had appeared!

Like Abraham, a name from old Hebrew...

The Fish Eagle, or so they say,

As osprey-like you might subscribe
To the adjective pandionine!

The Meaning of the Ancient Egyptian Ba

Ba (Ancient Egyptian)

In the old belief system
Of the Ancient Egyptians
It was said the Soul had three components
The first part being of course the "Ka"
Followed by the other, "Ba"
Of which was said all had by it's proponents.

However there was a third bit
The "akh" and only some have it
An entity reserved for just a few,
The "true of voice" or justified,
The righteous sort who when they died
Were deserving of the Maat Kheru.

The Meaning of Baa

Baa

Should you ever find you are
Trapped inside a speeding car
That's being driven by an insane sheep
So as to avoid your fate
You might like to communicate
With it in it's language made of bleats.

Try saying to it, "Baa baa baa"
Which means, "Please sir stop the car!"
And if that doesn't work then I'm afraid
Neither will "Baa baa baa baa!"
Which translates roughly into, "Aaaaargh!"
For sheep like that are too hard to persuade!
