The Meaning of Bar

Bar

A bar is usually understood
To be a longish piece of wood
Or metal too or some material
Rigid and used typically
To obstruct or fix tightly
Or for a weapon you might use to kill!

Then again it also could
Be something better than just wood
Like the counter found inside a pub,
Restaurant or cafe where
You might buy yourself a beer
Or if you're hungry fetch yourself some grub!

And if whilst there you saw outside
One you'd rather not abide
You might like to bar the entry way,
Which is the other meaning for
"Bar", which means to block the door
In the hope that they might go away.

Or if you're more up front you could
Go out with a bar of wood
And bar them from the pub forever or
You may say, "Hey, go away!
You're barred from here until late May
A hundred years from now and maybe more!"

And so that's all bar one last way
You might use "bar" for today
And that is in the case of an exception
As in "This bar is open for
All bar one, so lock the door
Should you see him come in this direction!"

The Meaning of Captious

Captious

I know a captious sort of man
Who looks for fault in all he can,
All he seems to do is criticize!

Pedantic in his nit-picking
He'll quibble over everything
For naught he sees is perfect through his eyes.

The Meaning of Thrasonical

Thrasonical

I found it rather comical
My friend was being thrasonical
About the features of his brand new phone,
About the gadget he did boast
And brag as if it was the most
Exciting thing that anyone could own...

And whilst on this thrasonic high
He claimed that it could even fly
And threw it high as high as he could throw,
Needless to say that he was wrong
His smart phone wasn't smart for long
And left my friend sobbing a loud, "Oh no!"

The Meaning of Histrionic

Histrionic

I knew a chap who quite a bit
Tended t'ward the dramatic
His behavior often rather chronic
His actions bore the intention
To attract him attention
Making him no less than histrionic!

It wasn't very practical,
His acting so theatrical,
And really got him no where in the end
For no one had the patience for
His melodrama anymore
Which is why I'm no longer his friend!

The Meaning of Octopine

Octopine

You might well take me for a wuss
When I say there's an octopus
Of sorts that lives somewhere under my bed

An octopine creature that tries
To capture anything that lies
Therein so I sleep somewhere else instead!

The Meaning of Nestorine

Nestorine

A funny thing to me occurred
When I encountered a strange bird
Whilst traveling down in New Zealand's South,
Visiting a mountain range
I stopped for coffee, nothing strange,
And maybe for some food to fill my mouth...

And sitting there in that cafe
Up in the snow there came to play
Upon my car a group of nestorine
Parots big and green and keen
And curious as anything
With auto theft their preferential crime!

I'm serious my car incurred
Some damage from this sanguine bird
As they took to it with their sharpened beaks
Trying to take my car apart
As if it were a kind of art
Unique in execution and technique.

So out I went to say, "Enough!
Stop this wrecking of my stuff!"
They looked at me and quickly disobeyed,
Instead these confident Kea
Tried to steal my camera
And made off with at least one wiper blade!

The Meaning of Lacertilian, Lacertian & Lacertine

Lacertilian, Lacertian, Lacertine

Secretly sometimes I fear
That underground we may find there
People who are lacertilian,
A race of scaly alians
Who rather than mammalian
Are lacertine and quite reptilian!

And many feet below our feet
They dream of human kind's defeat
And plot and plan about the day when they
Will lick their lacertian lips
And fly out on their lizard ships
To seize the land above to have thier way!

The Meaning of Ibidine

Ibidine

I find it hard to picnic where
When I eat there  may appear
A flock of birds hungry and ibidine,

For the ibis do scare me
With their long hooked beaks you see
And try to steal my lunch most of the time!

The Meaning of Herpestine

Herpestine

I sat down once upon a time
With a certain herpestine
Carnivore who would not share my mousse,

But fed rather upon the dead
Things upon his plate instead
Which was typical of a mongoose.

The Meaning of Gadine

Gadine

I jumped into the ocean where
I met a gadine fish in there
Who told me that has name was simply "Rod"

"Pleased to met you Rod," said I
To the fishy little guy.
How strange to be so greeted by a cod!
