What is 24 Hour Time?

About the Author            Home            What's it all about?

24 Hour Time

It's time I write a little rhyme
About a way to tell the time
That's "24 hour time" I mean
In which the times throughout the day
Are said in quite a different way
And look unlike the way they're often seen

Midnight for example
Should give you rather ample
Proof of this, it's not said with a "twelve"
Instead it's represented
By four zeros presented
And "Zero hundred hours" you would mouth!

One a.m. is written so:
"Zero one then two zeros"
And two a.m. "O Two Zero Zero"
Three a.m. is Zero Three
Then two more zero's so you see
Up to twenty four the pattern goes

The strange thing is there's no p.m.
For after what is called a.m.
You just keep counting up and up you see
One pm becomes thirteen
Hundred hours then fourteen
Hundred where two pm used to be

And finally we should explore
The last two digits of the four
Which are the minutes of the given hour
So if I said Nineteen O two
The time that I have said to you
Is two past seven in 24 hour

Some examples now I'll leave
So you can keep them up your sleeve
For future use should you feel the need
If dinner time's at six twenty
All you'd have to say to me
Is "Eighteen Twenty's when we'll have a feed!"

Two thirty p.m. is read
Fourteen three zero instead
Thirteen fifty just means One Fifty
Twenty thirty basically
Means the same as Eight Thirty
While Fifteen fifty simply means three fifty!

What is the Meaning of Ebullient?

About the Author            Home            What's it all about?

Ebullient

Ebullient is how I am
when my excitement can't be canned
Or kept inside the bottle of my heart
I'm nothing but exuberant
When I feel ebullient
So enthused it's simply off the chart!

For example Christmas day
When a present comes my way
I'm simply bubbling franticly with joy
By someone's affability
In giving such a gift to me
To share with me the thrill of a new toy!

What other things could make me sing
About the happiness they bring?
What else can fill me with ebullience?
Buttlerflys and birthday cakes
Kisses, cuddles and corn flakes
All have on me a happy influence

But if I had to pick a single
Thrill that never fails to tingle
Titillating all my senses sweet
The thing that is most relevant
To making me ebullient
Is doing nothing and resting my feet!

A Demonstration of the Word "Each"

About the Author            Home            What's it all about?

Each, a demonstration...

There once was a class full of girls and of boys
Who were told that they each had to pick up their toys
And that done they'd each get a peach
So they each quickly came up with a plan
Simple to implement and understand
And picked from the floor a toy each

And ever so quickly each cleaned up their mess
Each taking a toy till the job did progress
So each girl and boy earned a peach
And when they were done each one had a stone
That each of them kept and took off to their homes
And each of them planted their peach

But later that year when each peach tree appeared
Each of the peach trees did something quite weird
For when they grew fruit they each had
Toys on their branches where fruit should have been
Edible toys you could eat's what I mean
Though each tasting really quite bad!.

What is the Meaning of Da Capo?

About the Author            Home            What's it all about?

Da capo

When I play the piano
And see it written da capo
Upon the manuscript that I am playing

I remember then
To play the tune again
"From the start" is what the words are saying.

What is a Cabriole?

About the Author            Home            What's it all about?

Cabriole

Last night to my stark dismay
I dreamt that I could do ballet
And in a tutu leapt into mid air
Thrusting one leg out a bit
I struck the other against it
In a cabriole flying through the air

And that's when things got really strange
My body became rearranged
Until I was an 18th Century seat
With legs that curved out at the top
Then inwards the lower they got
To end with cabriole like wooden feet!

And as I sat there on the ground
Hoping no one was around
To sit on me so they could read the paper
I recalled when I was told
About the French word cabriole
And how it means literally to caper.
